Marc Fraser established North Marston Pottery in 1991 and since then he has successfully been producing a wide range of beautiful and functional pots, glazed in exquisite blues and greens, perfect for the kitchen and around the home. All of Marc’s work is hand-thrown in stoneware clay and porcelain and is suitable for use in the oven, dishwasher and microwave. Reminiscent of sea and sky, the pots are all at once unique, restful and completely practical.

We also run courses throughout the year for everybody from beginners through to the more experienced. Marc can also advise on projects and materials and encourage students to develop their own ideas. If you would like more information on our courses please click here.

Master potter at work

Marc’s pots are thrown in stoneware clay from Stoke-on-Trent. This is ideal for tableware due to it’s high-firing capability and robust qualities. Marc mixes his own glazes achieving his distinct colours with the oxides of cobalt and copper. His technique of dipping the pots in multiple glazes gives a subtle layered effect. Slips (liquid clays) add to the intensity of the colour and wax resist is applied between the layers of glaze, creating the appearance of watery landscapes. Coastal images are evident in the finished work and this is where Marc’s inspiration is drawn from. Despite living inland at the point that is furthest from the sea, Marc makes numerous trips every year to the seaside, taking in the seascapes, kayaking and delivering work to coastal galleries.
